Uneven or sunken concrete is unsafe and unsightly, but it isn't difficult to repair. Most often, it's caused by soils that are compacted by the weight of the concrete (or through water erosion).

This is quickly and easily repaired through a process called mudjacking.

Foundation Supportworks of the Tri States provides mudjacking services throughout the Iowa, Missouri & Illinois area, including Clark and Lewis counties, as well as Hancock, Adams, and McDonough counties and nearby.

Our services are available for commercial, residential, municipal, and industrial applications.

What is Mudjacking?

Mudjacking (also known as slab jacking, concrete lifting, concrete raising, and slab leveling) is a foundation and slab repair technique for lifting settling concrete slabs.

Mudjacking consists of pumping a mixture of "mud" or "slurry" underneath a settling slab to lift and stabilize it. This injected material is a mixture of water, soil, sand and Portland cement that cures to become a solid, stable fill material.

During installation, small holes are carefully drilled in the sinking concrete slabs. The slurry is mixed and prepared, and a line is fed into the concrete opening.

Once the concrete is raised to the desired level, the hole is professionally patched over.

When is Mudjacking Appropriate?

Mudjacking has two main applications:

  1. Stabilizing Settling Foundation Footing or a Perimeter Wall: Your foundation repair specialist will level the settled sections with new piers, using them to lift the masonry to a level position. When this is complete, mudjacking can be done to fill the empty space beneath the footing.
  2. Stabilizing Settling Concrete Slabs: The slurry is injected underneath the concrete, lifting the slab back to position.

Mudjacking requires special equipment and is a professional job. All work should be done through a trained, professional contractor who has excellent knowledge of local soil conditions.

Additionally, mudjacking is not always the right solution for your foundation issue. Contact one of our foundation experts today to make sure you won't have to fix the problem again later.

Depending on the size of the job, mudjacking can be completed in as little as a couple hours to a full day's work. After mudjacking, the slurry should then be given about 24 undisturbed hours to cure.
